John Scherer created the role of Bertie Wooster in the Broadway and film versions of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BY JEEVES., written and directed by Sir Alan Ayckbourn. He also appeared on Broadway in LOVEMUSIK, directed by the legendary Harold Prince, and played Joe Gillis in SUNSET BOULEVARD opposite Betty Buckley. He has appeared Off Broadway in DAMES AT SEA, OLYMPUS ON MY MIND and PREPPIES. Other New York credits include THE MOST HAPPY FELLA (New York City Opera), OUT OF THIS WORLD (City Center) and A TRIBUTE TO COMDEN AND GREEN (Carnegie Hall). He has toured nationally in 42ND STREET, CATS, WHITE CHRISTMAS and MAME with Juliet Prowse. He won the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for his performance as GEORGE M at the Goodspeed Opera House. Other regional credits include the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Goodman Theatre, Paper Mill Playhouse, Ahmanson Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, Cleveland Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse, Pittsburgh Public, Geva Theatre, St Louis Rep and many others. His film and television credits include SPINNING INTO BUTTER, THE SHIELD, CROSSING JORDAN, LAW AND ORDER (all three series), TITUS, and GUIDING LIGHT. He has a long association with the Cape Playhouse, having appeared in eleven productions here including VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, SWEET CHARITY, LEGALLY BLONDE, UNNECESSARY FARCE, BOEING BOEING, MOON OVER BUFFALO, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND, MY ONE AND ONLY and 42ND STREET and DAMES AT SEA. Mr. Scherer is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
